Flight training syllabus for Private Pilots

Welcome to the official AAFC flight training syllabus that may differ from other organizations within Malaysia in regard to content and length of training. It has been designed by captain Chow, Head of Flight Training and Club Captain of the Air Adventure Flying Club Subang: “It gives us great pleasure to take you up to the sky and share with you our knowledge”, we will ensure that not only you have a solid knowledge foundation and airmanship but also have fun and enjoy this most rewarding activity. Let me assure all AAFC students that Andreas, Michael, Zul, Keith, Hafiz, Sebastian, and I will do our utmost to provide you with a joyful and rewarding learning experience.

Familiarisation, this lesson be for 1.5 hours and your flying experience will be 0.6 hours or around 35 minutes and will Screen Shot 2017-08-06 at 12.55.55 pm

include:  aircraft systems, Arrow documents, emergency drills, current flying regulations, tech log and authorization, external checks, engine start, and warm-up: to get your aircraft ready for the flight, this is important and should be done for before EACH flight. In this video student pilot Joel Kuan and student Albert Tee do a pre-flight check on our training aircraft Cessna 172 P – 9M NCU. I suggest you print out the NCU checklist or the checklist that is corresponding to the aircraft you will be checking. There is little use having a checklist of an Airbus 380 if you wanna fly a Cessna 172. But also among the 172, and we have 3 to choose from there are big variances in these aircraft.

Effect of control I is lesson number two and in this lesson, you will learn the effects of primary flight controls, effect of airspeed and slipstream, effects of trim, effects of power change. 0.8 hours or 50 minutes lesson.

Effect of control II is all about introduction to taxi, effects of power, flaps, engine controls, mixture leaning – carburetor heat use, and about airmanship. This lesson usually lasts for 0.8 hours or about 50 minutes.

Straight and level 1, looks easy, not easy. The instructor demonstrates to you a takeoff, thinks straight and level at constant poor and direction maintaining a constant height. you will be shown how to rejoin the airfield and the limitations of the engine.

Straight and level 2, follow through in taking off, and we will in this lesson to see how the aircraft flies straight and level at different power settings, as well as at specific airspeed. you will learn the effects of flaps. This lesson will take one hour.

Climb and descend I, after your takeoff, we exercise the climbing and descending of the aircraft and review straight and level. a one-hour training flight.
Medium turns, here we learn to do a 30-degree angle of bank from a straight and level flight and do climbing and descending turns. a challenging sortie that will take apron 0.8 hours or 50 minutes.
Descending 2, effects of flaps, power , base technique and a normal rejoin is being done in a one-hour training flight.
Clean stall, in this sortie we will enter a clean stall, see the signs of an approaching stall, the indications and actions when a wing drop is occurring. then we are recovering from this stall. A one hour sortie.
Stall 2, here we revise the previous lessons, and do a stall on the final approach, as well as the go-around procedures, we demonstrate a
circuit, overshoot and a flow-through for a normal landing. A one hour sortie.
Circuits 1 we are doing some circuit work, upwind and downwind, base and final leg as well as normal landings. A one hour sortie.
Circuits 2 short field takeoff, revisions on the circuits and practice flawless landings. A demonstration of an EFATO.

Circuits 3 is all about crosswind techniques as well as revision for circuits 1 and 2. gliding techniques and go around practice.

Steep turns & unusual attitude is practiced in this 0.8-hour sortie and steep turns of 45-50degree AOB as well as unusual attitudes recovery is on the menu.
Instrument flying 1, is all about learning to go without the hood, practicing rate 1 turns, medium turns & steep turns. clump and descents and coordinated maneuvers as well as unusual positions recovery techniques.
Instrument flying 2 is about a one hour sortie same as instrument 1 but this time with the hood.
Instrument flying 3 is as per 1 with hood and we are including a VOR approach in the training.
Instrument flying 4 is as per 1 with the hood and a limited panel, a challenging flight that will last one hour.
Practice Diversion is a 0.8-hour flight with practice diversion to WMKF. Demonstration of an instrument approach into WMSA.
Navex 1 will be a 1.6-hour navigation flight via kapar, Kuala Selangor, tangoing malim, Rawang, and back to Subang.
Navex 2 that is a 2.4 hour trip wmsa port Klang, Morib all the way to Melaka and back.
Practiced forced landing, a short field takeoff, a clean stall, selection of a forced landing site, high key, low key, and emergencies like WFATO and engine failure in the Air, a total of one hour sortie.
Circuits 4, is a practiced abort takeoff, normal circuits, EFATO, low-level circuits, and short-field landing a one hour sortie.

circuits 5, revision of all types circuits, crosswind landings, demo radio failure all part of a one hour sortie.

Circuits 7, will be your first solo, which can be 10 minutes but will feel like one hour.
Circuits 8, is the revision of all circuits as well as selected emergencies. total of 0.8 hours.
Circuits 9, is the second normal circuit.
Circuits 10, this is the 3rd solo and should be a normal circuit only.
General handling 2 is all about the normal take off to the training area, GH revision and PFL training areas, rejoining to Subang airfield for a PFL, do a circuit revision.
General handing 3 will be the first solo to the training area.
General handling 4 will be a one-hour revision for circuits.
General handling 5 same as 4 but a solo flight.

General handling 6 will be your basic handling test

General handling 7 another solo flight.

NAVEX 3 will be a dual flight, Subang Rawang tangoing maxim, slim, and back via sekinchan Kuala Selangor kapar and Subang.

NAVEX 4 will be as per 3 but a solo sortie.
NAVEX 5 is a dual 2.4-hour flight to Melaka, going coastal and back inland.
NAVEX 6 is as per 5 but as a solo flight.
Pre-test is all about a revision of all general handling exercises and will take 1.2 hour
